Gear for Your Fishing Boat
A fishing boat is like a floating compartment space. You can bring along a large number of items that you may not think to bring for land fishing which can make your trip more comfortable and efficient! You should make the most of this convenient space and pack all of the essentials: a tackle box, needle nose pliers, a net, water, sunscreen, bug spray, life vests, and a first aid kit.
Other things to consider once you’ve got a hang of the process: depth finder, downriggers, rod holders, and tracking systems.
Of course, no fishing boat is complete without the proper bait on board. Keep in mind that not all fish will be interested in the same kind of bait. Research the fish you are aiming to catch and pick bait accordingly. Whenever possible, use live bait. It may be a bit messier and at times more expensive but it will work much better! Regardless of what bait you use, make sure you handle it with clean hands. Not everyone knows this, but fish have a strong sense of smell. If they encounter an odd scent (i.e. your hands), it could keep them from biting.

Attire
Fishing from a boat is different than fishing from land so you will need to adapt your clothing accordingly. You’ll still need all your normal fishing attire of course however we suggest you wear polarized sunglasses to keep UV rays from straining your eyes and to reduce the glare on the water. Look up the forecast and make sure you’re wearing enough layers. Bring waterproof gear as you never know what might happen.
Then you’ll need attire made for fishing from a boat. Just like any other boat, you’ll want to wear a life vest. You never know – a boating accident could impair your ability to stay afloat and you’ll be grateful for the assistance. You’ll also want to throw on a pair of waterproof boots for getting in and out of the water.
Laws and Regulations
States vary in their rules regarding fishing. Whether you fish in your home state or you plan on hopping the border to a neighboring state, make sure you look into the relevant laws for the area. Be sure you have the proper permits and licenses before you hit the open waters.
